REPETITON is her directorial debut about two struggling actors finding real connection in a movie-like world.
The idea behind REPETITION emerged after I'd auditioned for a role in a big feature film. In a long process of selftapes and callbacks the final decision was; "NO". And while looking back on the selftapes with my scene partner, I realized how many brilliant moments of real drama could be found in between the camera is rolling, REC to STOP.
So, with REPETITION I wanted to explore the struggle and passion committed actors go through – but by turning it on it's head. And at the same time, tell a true story of how challenging, vulnerable and joyous the life of an actor can be.
The intention was to have characters (who is played by actors) in a movie-like world. In this world there are perfect misty mornings bathing in sunlight and characters talk to mirrors, and of course alarm clocks are ignored.
But then, when the same characters rehearse a scene together – real life drama and subtext are introduced.
Everything, from writing the rhythmic dialogue to getting up early in the morning and build the sets and investigate "the need to act" was an inspiring journey. The film is a heartwarming celebration to all artists who live in a daily life of repetition, Trying and failing but doing what they love - and never giving up on their dreams.
