REFUSKI

The sport of Nordic skiing has never been known for diversity. A committed group of individuals in Boise, Idaho made up of teachers, coaches and community leaders is working to change that. The Bogus Basin Nordic Team (BBNT) began welcoming kids from the Boise refugee community to participate in nordic skiing back in 2011. What started as one elementary school teacher working to expose four of her Refugee students to a new world of winter and snow has now grown to as many as 10-12 "Refuski athletes," most who started their lives as displaced children. This is the story of how sport can transcend cultural barriers to build stronger communities.

Director Biography - Adam Wirth

My parents and grandparents gave me the gift of a childhood spent in the mountains, showing me the beauty and enjoyment of the backcountry of Colorado and Wyoming. During my time spent kayaking, skiing, mountain biking and running around the mountains it seemed natural to bring a camera. Through the lens of the camera, I strive to tell a story and bring people into the adventure. I am a father of two wonderful kids (Mac and Lucy); my wife, Kellie is certainly the glue that holds things together. I strive for a healthy balance in life and I am always looking for the next great adventure.

The REFUSKI project has had such a profound impact on my life. We live in a world full of a ridiculous amount of negativity and this is something so positive and wonderful and to be given an inside look into it, I am truly grateful.
