Corbin Rowell is an up-and-coming filmmaker from Richmond, VA. He began directing music videos for the local acoustic rock band, NeVeRSeeN, in 2018. Rowell met Richmond filmmaker Steve James in early 2019, and has collaborated with him on five different film projects. One of those projects was a horror short film titled "The Collector's Chest", which he co-wrote and co-directed with James for the Richmond 48 Hour Horror Film Project. "The Collector's Chest" won five awards, more than any other film in the competition, including BEST FILM 2ND PLACE.
Rowell's directorial and screenwriting debut is "We Were Desperate", a post-apocalyptic short film about two men surviving in a decimated world overrun by flesh-eating "banshees". The film had its local premiere at the Grace Street Theater in Richmond, VA on December 14, 2019. "We Were Desperate" will be released on Amazon Prime on January 10, 2020.
Currently, Rowell is writing the script for a Batman fan film titled "Batman: Master of Fear", which is scheduled to begin production in February 2020.
"Quicksand" was such a fun video to shoot for the Richmond, VA acoustic rock band NeVeRSeeN.
This was the 2nd music video I had ever directed, and the first time I was directing actors / people I didn't really know. Unlike the first music video, "Relief", Quicksand actually had a storyline. To prep, I storyboarded the entire video from start to finish - every frame. It was an incredibly fun experience working with actors, and it helped me gain confidence in myself as a director.
Prepping to shoot the band portion of the music video... was one of the hardest physical tasks I've ever done in my entire life. In order to get to our beachy location by the river, we had to carry all of our band & film equipment for approximately 2 miles while walking on railroad tracks and wooded trails in the middle of the hot summer. Not to mention, I cut my foot open very badly on glass or a rock in the bottom of the river while trying to get to said location. Needless to say, we went through hell and back to make this video something special, and I couldn't be more proud of it.
The punchy rock song was written by frontman T.J. Neveldine, and it touches on the vices of life pulling us down AKA "Quicksand". Whether it's a bad relationship, addiction, or personal demons, this song relates to everyone when they fall short and feel dragged down by the "Quicksand" in their life.
With an awesome rock sound, relatable lyrics, and fun story, this music video will always have a special place in my heart.
