Experiencing Interruptions?

QC2020

As founding members of a choir community known as Queer Choir Amsterdam, the artists, Shreya de Souza and Mylou Oord wished to document the unfolding of the ‘brave spaces’ created with the communion of voices by members of the queer community. In this film, the occupation of spaces and institutions that have historically been averse to the queer community fosters a commoning of these exclusive and inhibitive spaces. Filling these public spaces with voices that are (and have been) marginalized and ‘othered’ immediately weaves a new narrative, one that is more inclusive and equitable in an attempt to create more joyous futures.

The resulting work in the film, QC-2020, which is far from being a documentary about the choir, explores the artists’ own experiment of active resistance while creating an imaginary universe, free of societal binaries and limitations.
