Being born and raised in Bali makes I Made Suniartika close to local culture and traditions. Now he lives in Yogyakarta to complete his education at Jogja Film Academy. In 2021, his short documentary entitled "Different Touch in Batik" received nominations for the Indonesian Film Festival and Maya Cup. He continues to focus on pursuing his life in the film world.
As a man who was born and grew up in Bali, Suniartika feels emotional closeness about the traditions and life of the community, one of which is marriage. My parents always advised me that if I got married, it was strictly forbidden to follow a woman's lineage, but instead I had to propose to a woman and follow my family's lineage even though I had a brother. Why is it like this? Due to the customs of some Balinese people, the groom is the one who is obliged to propose to the bride. If a man is proposed to by a woman, it is likened to a "paid bangkung" like a female pig who attracts the groom to her house. This term really lowers the self-esteem of men's families. Thinking about the fate of a family that only has daughters, while they hope for offspring to carry on family responsibilities, but are hindered by the strong habits and systems in
their society.
