Chakavak Kafi, an Iranian filmmaker and storyteller, holds a Master’s degree in Drama from the University of Tehran and is completing a filmmaking program at the Iranian Youth Cinema Society. With a passion for experimental and narrative cinema, she has directed three short films, the latest currently in post-production. Punctuated Equilibrium, is her newest project.
This short film is an exploration of self-perception and identity. By portraying a woman’s distorted reflections in everyday objects, I seek to express my thoughts openly rather than concealing them in subtext.
The warped visuals reflect the fragmentation of identity, even when faced with supposed perfection. Through this film, I seek to examine the tension between external pressures and internal perceptions, leaving the interpretation open to the audience.
