Amal Surendran is a filmmaker based in Kerala, India.
For as long as he can remember, Amal has dreamed about making movies. He wrote and directed his first film, Punchiri, at age twenty one. The story of a son's love for his mother, it explores themes that remain central to Amal's work: shifting relationships, social issues and the ways in which our perceptions shape the expectations we have of others. He has continued to explore these themes in subsequent films and screenplays.
Amal is a highly collaborative filmmaker, working with the same team of trusted technicians and actors across several productions. His goal is to fuse his unique sensibility with genres and styles he loves to create intelligent, appealing films.
