Punchdrunk went from pre to post-production in one weekend. It was made as part of a KinoD event in Dublin, Ireland.
KinoD is the Dublin branch of the Kino filmmaking movement. The movement was founded in Montreal, Canada, in 1999 by 20 film students and adheres to the motto: "Do well with nothing, do better with little, and do it right now!"
As a director, I like to test the limits of the Kino format. My intention was to create a short film with as many over-the-top action scenes as possible.
Ireland has a reputation for producing great farces, and Punchdrunk is one that pays tribute to Hong Kong martial arts films and Japanese cinema. This is all topped off with Tarantinoesque levels of violence and a video game-inspired soundtrack.
