Director Statement

I wanted to make a movie that took a serious look at crime and
family-related issues in Japan, two things that are becoming more
complicated every year. Behind the superficial perspectives reported
in the press, the reality is something that only the people involved
can understand. It is something that grows out of the years spouses
share together, the tight bonds between siblings, or the unconditional
love between parents and children. These personal experiences often
clash with our preconceptions.

Told from the perspective of a 14-year-old boy, this film captures the
delicate workings of a youthful heart. I hope it inspires discussion
between people of all generations and cultures.
