Experiencing Interruptions?

Psychological Lover

A teenage girl, struggling with her mental health, is coerced by her toxic ex-lover into violently breaking free from her new and seemingly perfect relationship.

The audience is first introduced to her unnamed character under a bridge as she recounts the events which have led to the present day.
Regressing to two years earlier the girl, who is now named as Athena, first meets Oz, an attractive waiter. She recounts to the audience how she had initially used Oz as a rebound after her past relationship had broken down. Unexpectedly, they fell in love
and he turned out to be the ideal boyfriend.
One year passes, now one year closer to the present day, and Athena is in the car with her dad. The perspective shifts and the audience enter her mind to see how broken Athena is, despite being in this ‘perfect’ relationship. The following weekend, a wave of loneliness consumes Athena whilst at a party. Oz, also in attendance, is seen saving her, supporting her as her mental health becomes impossible to cope with alone. This relationship is threatened when Athena’s ex-boyfriend, who is now
named as Soter, re-enters her life.
Six months pass, creeping closer to the present day, and nothing is the same; Soter wants Oz dead. He manipulates Athena into believing that Oz is who she should be afraid of so that she would be acting in self-defence. Reluctantly and naively, she agrees. In a scene which unveils Oz’s hidden persona, Athena shoots Oz in the
middle of the forehead.
As the timeline brings Athena back to the present day, the narrative cycles back to the first scene but there are differences. The dialogue has changed to reveal that Oz was not who she had convinced the audience he was. In a twist of events, Oz was the personification of self-harm. Before she exits with Soter, she tells the audience how she finally ended the constant psychological battle of “finding comfort between a person or a blade”.
