Director Statement

What I’ve come to understand as a writer is that there are stories that never leave us. Protected lay dormant in me for years before I was able to look within. My sexual assault created a deep sense of shame that haunted me. Though this story was conceived on a whim upon further inspection I realized that it was the narrative that I had been searching for these past five years. I was inspired by Cheryl Dunye and the idea that we are the authors of our own history. Following my assault, I went to get tested in solitude. Nobody knew about it except me and the lonesome experience was harrowing and difficult to carry. I wrote this film to imagine what it would have been like had somebody been there. Writing and directing this story was the impetus for my healing process. It gave me the permission to be and not let this incident define me. As it has soothed me I hope you too will find yourself in it and come to understand that no matter what you might be going through, you will be okay.
