Private Screening
Private Screening - Written & Directed by Omar Parry Kent
1981 - With the events of 1978 still fresh in the memory, a Sikh couple decide to stay home as Skinheads gather in Southall for a Punk-Rock show.
I was fascinated by the varying responses in the Asian community to organisers such as the National Front and problems around institutional racism in the Police and Government. The different tactics employed by groups such as the Indian Workers Association and Southall Youth Movement is such a rich topic that I'd love to develop further on a screen. Through working on this project, I have gained invaluable technical knowledge, especially around the process of shooting on celluloid and the different challenges this poses along with gaining a much deeper understanding of the racial issues faced by the South Asian community in Britain.
