Experiencing Interruptions?

Primal Fragments in Motion

Primal Fragments in Motion is a short experimental film by filmmaker / musician Evan Patrick and commercial photographer / video artist Aaron Cameron Muntz. It is based on texts from The Coming Mental Range, a collection of essays and poems by Pulitzer Prize-nominated artist Will Alexander. Building upon the book's examination of distortions and pollutants both within the global environment and human consciousness, Primal Fragments in Motion is an impressionistic rumination on our cultural moment of crisis. It is a quietly urgent visual poem that combines original footage, sound design, dramatic performance and text voiceover from Alexander himself.
All footage and sound by Aaron Cameron Muntz and Evan Patrick.

The aim of this project was to challenge the filmmakers into new modes of multi-disciplinary expression through exploring the work of Will Alexander. His impressionistic approach to words ignited Patrick and Muntz to rethink their own creative practices and tap into a free and improvisational workflow, drawing from a variety of inspirations (Harry Smith, Marilyn Minter, Oneohtrix Point Never) and material (6K high resolution, early 2000s HD , found objects) sources.

The end result, Primal Fragments in Motion, seeks to challenge the viewer to turn inward and reflect upon the personal, social and political possibilities of an expansive creative consciousness.
