Preserved Time

Set in a rural Lithuanian village, the very first place I called home, this documentary depicts quiet and modest life of my grandmother Milda. As she's sharing memories from her past, the imagery is ever so present. Neither can exist without the other, and the place itself obtains meaning because of its history within my family.

Director Biography - Vaiva Botyriūtė

I'm a Lithuanian artist working worldwide in the mediums of moving image, photography and printmaking.

After finishing high-school in a small town of Marijampolė, I have moved to London to pursue a career in arts at the age of 19.
In 2022 I graduated in BA Photography at London Metropolitan university. I have exhibited my fine art work at Free Range Festival in London in 2022, and La Fête du Court-Métrage Metz in 2023.

The development of my short film "Preserved Time" has started while I was in my last year of university. However, due to the long experimental process I chose for printmaking, lack of time has prolonged the finishing of this film until early 2023.

"Preserved Time" is my debut film as a director, cinematographer and storyteller.

Director Statement

Change in life happens quite rapidly. People, places, opportunities,
knowledge are always in motion, therefore I explore both mundane and transcendent meanings, with a cautious aim to contemplate them and divert from superficial tendencies of comprehension.
