Powerstar

A group of climbers aspire to bring more inclusivity in the Indian climbing scene by developing new sport routes in Badami - a town known for it's historic temples of the Chalukya dynasty (6th century). Facing opposition from other climbers they stay determined to seek new ways of taking the sport forward. With the help of a crowdfunding initiative they get the support from climbers from India and abroad to bring the community together and train a new generation of route developers. Creating lasting bonds through a shared love for climbing.

Director Biography - Pratik Singla

Pratik is an Indian filmmaker and creative director. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Mass Media from University of Mumbai and a Master's in Advertising & Design from the University of Leeds, UK.

Currently, he serves as the Creative Head of an Indian advertising agency, where he creates branded storytelling for large national and international brands.

Pratik’s passion lies in delving into stories that revolve around communities and individuals. His directorial debut, the documentary film "Powerstar," shot in February 2023 in collaboration with Mineral Studios, dives deep into the development of the Indian rock climbing community.

As a filmmaker, my passion lies in exploring stories of communities and the individuals who breathe life into them. Communities are the bedrock of our species, shaping our identities and providing us with a sense of belonging and purpose. Through my films, I aim to uncover the untold narratives that showcase the diverse ways in which communities shape us. By offering an insider's perspective, I strive to capture the essence of what drives people to collaborate and work together, inspiring viewers to contemplate the profound nature of human connection and collaboration.

Communities serve as vital ecosystems where shared experiences, values, and traditions thrive. I am drawn to the intricate tapestry of human connections that these communities represent. Each community possesses its own unique narrative, reflecting its history, struggles, aspirations and even change. Through my work, I celebrate this diversity and aim to showcase the genuine emotions and perspectives of the people within these communities. By sharing their stories, I hope I can ignite empathy and understanding among viewers, encouraging them to appreciate the rich cultural fabric that makes us all human.

The collective experiences within these groups offer valuable insights into the universal desire in all of us for mutual support. Through this lens, I hope to encourage open dialogue and inspire a global community of compassionate individuals who who appreciate the beauty of our shared humanity.
