Director Biography - Charles Black

Charles Black was born in 1972 on Vendenberg AFB, CA, and spent the first 10 year of his life traveling from base to base. Finally settling down between the Navajo reservation in New Mexico and Florida. At the age of 28 he joined the Army National Guard in Arizona. After completing his training, he moved to Indiana and join an Infantry unit. Spending the next nine years in his unit, he would deploy to Bosnia in 2002 and Afghanistan from 2004 – 2005. He would leave his military career in 2007 after serving 9 years and reaching the rank of Sargent. Following his time in service from 2007 – 2010, he was an active scuba instructor and focused his diving around underwater photography and cinematography. Taking photos and videos throughout the Caribbean and freshwater quarries. In 2010 he changed his focus and ran for U.S. House of Representatives in Arizona, after loosing the election to the incumbent he returned to underwater cinematography and travel. In 2013 he spent several weeks with Anthony Anderson and Tom Voss, two Army veterans who were walking across the U.S. to bring awareness to veteran suicide. Tom and Anthony were part of a documentary (Almost Sunrise) directed by Michael Collins giving Charles a firsthand look at filmmaking. He would go on to spend the next four years help other veterans dealing with PTSD and suicide issues. On April 3rd, 2018, Charles suffered a massive heart attack and was hospitalized. Following the heart attack, he decided he want to share more with the world through stories and created a vlog channel on YouTube. Wanting to share not only his daily life through the lens of a camera but wanting to share fictional stories in 2019 he filmed his first short “Red Jack with a budget of less the $500. Charles currently resides between Anchorage, AK and Kingman, AZ. He is married and has a son and four step-children.
