At age seven, a traumatic experience forced me to mature quickly. Since then, I’ve been drawn to exploring stories of children who are forced to grow up too soon, presenting these experiences through their eyes. In this film, I use artistic shots to depict Or as he listens and peeks into the adult world—unseen by those around him.
When my wife and I began thinking about starting a family, I felt the need to prepare myself for the changes in life this would bring. Through this process, I became aware of postpartum depression and honestly feared it might touch our lives.
I had countless conversations with families affected by it and learned just how much a lack of awareness persists, even though early exposure can ease the struggle and even save lives.
The most profound lesson I gained from these conversations is the power of empathy and support in such a challenging situation. This is why, in the film, even the smallest gesture the protagonist makes has a profound impact on his mother.
Today, I’m the father of my own baby whose cries you’ll hear featured in the film’s sound design.
Lastly, it’s significant to me that this story unfolds in Sderot, a small city in southern Israel. I am deeply committed to the idea of nurturing and expanding film culture in the Negev region.
