Post Modern Korea
South Koreans in the early 1990s became more confident in their developing economic power and that confidence could be seen in different areas. On the other hand, anti-Japanese sentiment was growing due to unstable relations between Korea/Japan.
This marked the end of an era as this campaign led to the demolition of the former colonial Japanese government building (the National Museum of Korea at the time). This old building, an overpowering presence for 70 years, was demolished in 1995 on the 50th anniversary of Korea’s independence.
Can it be said that the ‘Setting History Upright Again’ campaign was successful?
