Positive

A film by Lauren Lox & Sheilava -- woman experiences a wave of emotions as she waits in anticipation for the sign that could change the rest of her life.

Some fun facts from Sheilava, the Executive Producer, Composer, and Actress of Positive:

From A Dream To The Positive Team - the idea for Positive came to writer/director Lauren Lox in a dream in February 2020 about her friend and film partner Sheila V.A. In less than two weeks, the two female filmmakers turned that same dream into a short film for the 2020 Single Take Challenge.

Twinkle Tinkle - the charming "tinkling" sound you hear when Sheilava goes to the bathroom is indeed an audio sample... we were not going to try to capture any sort of real audio for a scene like that!

Get Along Lil' Doggie! - the original plan was to include both of Lox's pet dachshunds in the film... but one of the weenies wasn't having it! The team put dog treats in the sleeves of Sheilava's sweater during the scene where she kneels down to say hi to her fur-babies. One pup was all about the chow, but the other could see right through their ploy and waggled away take after take! Thankfully the best momma-doggo moment was captured during the best and last run-through.

What Year Is It? - the calendar you see hanging on the closet door is an old photo calendar Sheilava has kept on her bedroom wall since 2018. All of the pictures were so special that she could not part with it!

Gone, But Still Here - the photos in the memorial scene at the end are all real photos of Sheilava and her husband Mike (nick-named "Matt" on the old calendar seen hanging on the closet door)! It was so hard for Sheilava to picture her husband passing away while shooting this film that she suddenly started sobbing during the very first rehearsal take.

A Broken Heart - to comply with the 2020 Single Take Challenge rules and satisfy the required element of a "heart", Sheilava purchased two stuffed animals adorned with heart-patterned bow ribbons to be used as props on the nightstand next to the bed where she tosses and turns. The only problem? The bow ribbons cannot be seen in the frame of the best (and ONLY!) full take that the Positive team captured that day... by the time they realized this, the shoot was done and it was too late. Sheilava decided to compose a song for the end of the film that would include the word "heart" in the lyrics and emailed the Single Take Challenge committee to confirm that this was acceptable. Alas, a song was born!

A Little Too True - making this film has been meaningful and deeply personal for both Sheilava and Lauren Lox... in more ways than two! Just months after Positive was filmed, Sheilava went through her own roller coaster of emotions when she found out she was pregnant and then several days later experienced a traumatic miscarriage. Lox's unending friendship, support, and the idea of staying positive through the the ups and downs meant everything to her.

This Is Not The End My Friend - plans are in the works to create a Producer's cut and submit a different version of Positive to additional film festivals.

"Love, Me" lyrics - songwriting comes naturally and fluidly to Sheilava, so of course she had to write a full length number in addition to the small snippet she wrote for the film. The full song will eventually be shared to her YouTube and other social media pages in addition to setting the piece to an animated music video! The lyrics featured in Positive are below.

I miss the warmth of your smile
My heart doesn't beat when you're not here
It's hard to live life without you
To start each new day and end each night
But know dear, that I'll still be waiting
Right here, through the endless nights
I need you more than anything...
Love, Me
