Matthew Kaukiainen is a 21-year-old writer/director based in Brisbane, Australia. He has a love for character-driven films.
Matt wanted to produce a film that followed the explicit theme, drug addiction. From growing up in a small country town, Matt had been exposed to the ugly side of drug addiction, and how it can affect one's mental state.
Matt wishes to take on a performance-driven directorial approach, to give the audience an authentic viewing experience.
This is a film that I've wanted to make for a very long time, long before I even took my first step in becoming a filmmaker. The goal with 'Positive' was to go beyond the surface level understanding of drug addiction, teenage pregnancy, and domestic abuse. I believe people who find themselves in these situations can often be reduced to nothing more than the stereotypes society puts on them. Stereotypes which are ironically formed by people with little to no experience/expertise about said topics. I believe people (myself included) can at times forget that every person, regardless of the situation they're in or the decisions they've made in the past, have an innate desire to do the right thing for themselves and others. I am overcome with joy that this film has finally been made, and could not be more excited to put it out into the world.
