Portrait

How do you grieve for someone when they weren't the person you thought they were? Portrait tells the true story of an anonymous contributor, while an artist paints an impression of the person they see behind the words. Filmed in the picturesque medieval city of Lincoln, UK, members of the public were invited to interact by writing the names of loved ones they had lost around the portrait.

Director Statement

There are so many stories buried by shame, fear and guilt. This short film hopes to bring one of those true stories to life. It tells the story of a teenage girl who loses her boyfriend to cancer only to discover he wasn't the person she thought he was. A painfully honest picture of grief.
