Director Statement

I wanted to make Por Puzhukkal (War Worms) to explore the connection between human beings and nature. It depicts a valuable resource hidden within a tree (which symbolises the resources we extract from the earth in various ways) and shows the intertwined relationship between humans and nature. The film serves as a warning, urging viewers to question their values and choices. Through human’s greedy fights over the resource, nature observes, and I tried to represent it like worms that grow from the fruits and consume them. The film culminates in a realisation of our shared vulnerability and dependence on the Earth’s ecosystem. Through a specific visuals and storytelling choices to create a new world, my goal is to leave an impact and provoke a thought on the theme poetically. For me, it’s a movie about peace, anti-violence and co-existence.
