Alejandra Arrieta is a documentary filmmaker, writer and researcher, interested in the moving image as a theoretical, artistic and philosophical expression. She holds a Master of Arts with Distinction in Film and Screen Studies from Goldsmiths, University of London (FONCA-CONACYT). Her work in archival, non-fiction and experimental film and television has been presented in important cultural spaces in Mexico, such as the Museo Universitario de Arte Contemporáneo MUAC, Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil and Museo Tamayo. She is also a curator of moving image and has written for cultural publications in Mexico and the UK.
Pola Weiss (2023) is about a late fundamental artist for the history of contemporary art –considered the pioneer of video art in Mexico– whose work was extremely visionary in relation to screens, technology, feminism and the body, but yet remained unrecognized in the sexist society of 70’s Mexico. Since her artistic practice is categorically autobiographical, there is a historical need to understand her work through the knowledgeability of her life; a need to which this film responds with a research much more extensive than any previous academic or audiovisual attempt.
