Established in 2015, ARTOLDO is a creative collective featuring the Film Directors and New Media Artists Sara Ferro and Chris Weil, with a focus on Arthouse Movies, Avant-garde Film, Expanded Cinema, Cinebitions, Feature Documentaries, Moving Images and Video Art installations. Since 2021 the duo is a proud member of the Etherea Art Gallery.
An attempt to sketch or define a new critical approach, a new practice-based towards a theory of the appropriation in the art in form of a video essay upon the film industry by using found footage creating a recombinatory film.
The work "Play Rec: For Film" by Sara Ferro and Chris Weil was created within 5 days during the workshop "Dictionaries and Aporias" hold by Ho Tzu Nyen with Jan Gerber & Sebastian Lütgert at the Summer Academy Salzburg. It represents the first recombinatory film ever made in our director's career and tells the story about making a movie, the difference between fiction and reality, the meaning and message of a film, financing, copyright and many more. Our work may be seen as a homage to the film industry, film festivals, cult films and cinema lovers all over the world.
The final result consists of over 50 movies recombined in a single work - Enjoy!
