Play It Again - Coming Home to Music and How It Changed My Life
When “Sky” (Jim Schuyler) enrolled in the San Francisco Conservatory of Music’s program in Technology and Applied Composition [SFCM TAC], in the first year of its existence, 2015, he knew he would have a story to tell. As a teen-ager he had made a choice between a career as a musician and a career as a computer scientist. He chose computers and software. A full 50 years later, he followed his childhood dream — he applied, auditioned and “came home to music” at the Conservatory. And he became the only white-haired guy in a cohort of far younger students. Filmed on SFCM’s new high-tech campus in 2022, Play It Again tells the stories of four SFCM alumni who, like him, returned to music after pursuing other professions. The film’s original score was written by its four storytellers.

Jim ("Sky") Schuyler was a pianist as a child and teen. At the age of 16, he fell in love with computers and. software. Even while starting a half dozen software companies, he realized he still wanted to make music. In 2015 he "came home to music" studied composition and then began scoring short independent films. "Play It Again" is his directorial debut.
I'm passionate about wanting to help people get back into music. If you were a young musician and got diverted along the way, it is my hope this film will open you up to the possibility that you, too, could "Come home to music" and some of the ways it might change your own life.
