Director Biography - Mashka Wolfe

Mashka came to the United States with her family when she was five years old, and even though she knew the word "refugee" (in Russian) she didn't know what it meant. It was only when she began researching and writing her part in The New Colossus, directed by Tim Robbins, that she connected with her past through bringing her story to audiences across North and South America.

She co-wrote a pilot, Y2K Babes, with executive producer Macauley Culkin, starred in Lonely in the Dusk, a short film that screened at Dances with Films and the Newport Beach Film Festival. And was a series regular on the award winning science fiction web series called Lifelike that she wrote and produced. Most recently, she appeared on Netflix’s series Hollywood, I am the Night, and the CW’s Jane the Virgin.

Director Statement

Over the years, many people have tried to bring puppets to a more grown up story. This is our attempt at taking this beloved art form to the next level, in an absurd, hallucinatory landscape. This film was created by women to make women laugh, because women love absurdist humor, and we felt like they were underserved in that space.
