Sotiris Danezis is based in Athens, Greece, and has more than 25 years of experience as a journalist, war correspondent, and documentary filmmaker. Since 2003, he has focused on documentary filmmaking and has worked as a producer, writer, and narrator for two of Greece's most renowned documentary series: "Empolemi Zoni" (War Zone) and "Orizontas" (Horizon). His documentaries, characterized by a globally curious outlook and mind-stretching approach, provide clear and sharp analyses of complex subjects in a compelling and digestible way.
Throughout his career, Sotiris has worked in over 80 countries, including some of the most dangerous places in the world. He was awarded the "Athanasios Botsis Foundation Award for the Promotion of Journalism," the most coveted award for journalists in Greece, by the President of the Hellenic Republic.
In 2008, the "Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival" paid a special tribute to his films by screening ten documentaries in cinema theaters. In September 2007, his film "Oogruk Means Oil" was selected for the "Athens International Film Festival," and his special assignment to Afghanistan during the same year earned him the "Best Reporting" award at the 2007 Greek Television Awards.
Sotiris also contributed to the book "News of the War and the War Against News," published by the "Marangopoulos Foundation" for Human Rights in 2002. His articles have been published in newspapers and many weekly and monthly magazines. He has garnered a number of distinctions from the Journalists' Union of Athens Daily Newspapers, the Municipality of Athens, the Municipality of Thessaloniki, Doctors of the World, and other organizations.
