Plastic Boy
Plastic Boy is an LGBT grey comedy about a hapless, borderline narcissist who blames everyone else for his problems and knows that he isn't where he wants to be in life, but can't be bothered to do anything about it.
Sam spends his days bored at his unfulfilling office job, where he's more interested in trying to get the attention of the guy he likes than he is about actually doing his job. He can't quite stay broken up from his ex, as he misreads his desire for casual sex as him wanting to get back together. And as his best friend becomes more successful in both her career and relationship, the two find themselves drifting. He realizes he can't just float on by in life and he's faced with losing his job and apartment and when met with the bleak prospect of moving home with his parents Sam is forced to look at what he really wants and who he really is. Plastic Boy is a painfully honest look at trying to get your shit together, when (you think) the whole world is against you.

Hi, I'm Sam! I like making films that observe everyday relationships and interactions. I'm interested in capturing the tone of day-to-day life and how there can be comedy is sad moments
'Plastic Boy' is my 1st feature film but prior to that I have made a short film ('Seeing Each Other') and a web series ('Sorry Not Interested')

Plastic Boy is, unfortunately, based on real life events. Everything is taken from moments I've had (and of course condensed and put together to fit in to a 90 minute narrative) - painful, funny and embarrassing.
I'd always had a strong sense of the plot and for many years before it was written or even fleshed out the skeleton of it lived in the notes of my phone. After a few failed attempts at funding, competitions and Crowdsourcing it became clear that I had to take matters in to my own hands, so I grabbed my savings account, iPhone and talented film school friends to bring Plastic Boy to life, with no higher power. We shot on weekends, with £5,000 on equipment that we then returned to Amazon.
Everyone involved was on a profit share model and time was fighting against us at every opportunity (quite literally because we couldn't afford to stay in places for very long) as a result the final product is created on nothing but love, passion and a lot of time lugging equipment around London in cardboard boxes that were about to break.
As well as being my first feature, that was true of about 80% of people involved. We were all walking through the dark, holding each others hands hoping not to fall, and even when we did we got straight back up. It was a very unique production and it was just as fun as it was challenging and learning.
As of 2022, Plastic Boy has received an official UK release on VOD and is available to purchase on Vimeo and Plex
