Pipe Dream

Richard Wagner Jr. III lives within a prison. Walls of stone and the strong arms of men have their way with the small, frail shell of this man. But beyond these confines, beyond the harsh florescent lights that suck life from dreaming minds, awaits a lucid and fringe dream that seeks out hosts for its short-lived dance of the fantastic.

Director Statement

The fundamental goal in making Pipe Dream was to create an emotional experience. I wanted the emotions felt to be scattered across a widely diverse spectrum in a very short period of time.

We have received mixed reactions with this film. Some are delighted, touched deeply and left hopeful — others claim to be terrified, traumatized, and left in tears.

The project came together quickly once we acquired the location, which was a small concert room deep in the underbelly of Stockholm’s massive Royal College of Music. The film was shot over the period of seven hours in this single location which has a stage at one end of the hall and the magnificent wooden organ at the other end.

The script was written on a Sunday and filmed the following Saturday. We were very lucky in our casting process, being able to secure some major talent ranging from professional stage actors, to improv specialists and television actors — as well as some first-timers who were just fantastic.

★★ Nat Geo/Hans Zimmer GENIUS Award ★★

This film was a collaboration between the mighty composer Henrik Lindstrom and myself and was in part created to compete in Nat Geo’s GENIUS competition backed by Hans Zimmer & Lorne Balfe.

Composer/Producer on the film, Henrik Lindström, actually stumbled across the competition during the week we planned to shoot the film. We then suddenly got a deadline and it ended up having a good impact on our workflow — though it became a hectic week of writing the music, finding the actors, props etc.

Pipe Dream won Judge's Pick by Hans Zimmer & Lorne Balfe personally.

★★★★★ ”WE FOUND OUR MUSICAL GENIUS!”

—Hans Zimmer

★★★★★ “Arrangements of the theme were fantastic.
Like any film score, it worked amazingly with the story
and visuals.”

—Lorne Balfe

★★★★★ "LOVE the video - the melodramatic hair flip
(by John) is near and dear to my heart, haha. What an
awesome story, seriously great production both musically
and visually!"

—Tina Guo

"This film was captivating from the start. Most people
would shy away from this difficult subject, but Bjorvand
went in head first and came out a champion."
