Born and raised in Auckland, Harriet Keith is a New Zealand filmmaker who has been fascinated with the subject of film since she was a child. She’s always been drawn to stories whether it be in books, tv or songs. Creating videos with her sisters on iMovie as children, she went on to pursue media studies in high school, coming top of the year in 2019 and 2020. Her media teacher encouraged her to pursue her filmmaking passion and she later graduated Yoobee Colleges South Seas Film School in 2021 specialising in Drama Directing and Scriptwriting. Her enthusiasm and passion for narrative storytelling was harnessed during her year at Film School and confirmed her determination to pursue her dreams to continue creating films by building a career in the screen production industry. She hopes to work on fictional storytelling through film and tv productions and bring original content and more diversity to the industry and the productions
‘I wanted to make this film for everyone feeling a little lost and afraid of the future. Finishing a large chapter of your life and not knowing what happens next is stressful and scary and I wanted to make a film showing that, while sending the message that it’s ok to not have any plans.
I was inspired to tell this story as it’s something my friends and I experienced when we finished school. Yet we felt it was wrong to feel this way. Lack of support in these situations is stressful and unhelpful so I created this story to follow this incredibly close friend group where only one person feels lost and afraid. I chose to show her fear of loss and the unknown through her escapism, getting entirely lost within their game as a safeguard against reality. I wanted to show that this is a normal response to fear and while we can get carried away; if we stop ignoring the problem, we can find solutions. This is a story everyone can relate to, so I wanted to make it fun, cute and sweet to lighten the load we feel at these pivotal moments in our lives.'
