Director Biography - Karen Di Porto

Karen Di Porto became passionate about cinema after graduating in Law. She directs her first short "Nicolino" in 2011. With "Cesare", second short, she gets numerous awards and is a finalist at the Nastri d ’Argento. In 2017 she presented her first feature film "Maria per Roma" at the Rome Film Festival and won the italian Golden Globe for Best Debut Film the following year.  “Piazza” is her first documentary, a rapprochement to her Jewish roots.

Director Statement

I have always dreamed to offer a vivid look at the reality in which I grew up and to share the love I feel for the places and people who are the protagonists of this story. Collecting interviews over the years, while life itself took its course, the meaning of my work has also changed, forcing me to return to themes that I thought I had elaborated, to see them with new eyes.
