Phil Lombardi, a retired attorney, is now working on a second profession in writing. His debut screenplay EDDIE THE KING, a modern adaptation of Oedipus the King (public domain), was awarded BEST SCREENPLAY at the Milestone Worldwide Film Festival in Battipaglia, Italy, awarded BEST SCREENWRITER at the European International Film Festival in Saint Petersburg, and awarded FIRST TOP SCREENPLAY at the 12th Jaipur International Film Festival, with additional selections as FINALIST at Pitch Now Screenplay Competition, the Screenplay Festival in Sherman Oaks, California, Inroads Screenwriting Fellowship in Los Angeles, Filmmatic Drama Screenplay Awards in Los Angeles, and the Las Vegas International Film and Screenplay Competition, and SEMIFINALIST at the Ojai Film Festival and Indie Visions Film Festival. His second screenplay The HOLE IN THE RIVER, awarded Best Social Screenplay in the After Hour Film Festival, also an official selection at The Golden Script Competition, is a feel-good dramedy, set in small town America in the 1970’s where four misfit boys must choose between a Muslin man who is falsely jailed or the town they live in. CHILOCCO, his third screenplay, awarded BEST SCREENPLAY at the Open Window International Film Challenge, BEST SCREENPLAY NATIVE AMERICAN STORY at the Marina del Rey Film Festival, FINALIST at the Hollywood Sun Awards, and SEMIFINALIST at the New York Cinematography Awards, is based on an actual Indian boarding school where runaways were hunted for bounty. In this fictionalized version, a white teacher rapes a proud Cherokee girl who must decide whether to kill herself or him. In THE BROTHERS BOUDINOT, his fourth project, a 1- hour pilot teleplay, selected as FINALIST in Chicago Screenplay Awards, an American soldier suffering from PTSD searches for Confederate gold buried by his Native American ancestor General Stand Watie. In BILLY BOUDINOT, a screenplay and fifth project, the Boudinots sign a treaty with President Andrew Jackson betraying their tribe and leading to the removal of the Cherokees to Oklahoma, which is historically accurate, and resulting in a (fictional) curse which carries to present day in this tale of betrayal of brothers, stolen love, buried gold, and a drug deal gone bad.
