Phase Space
Tom is a talented game programmer, who is fed up with the lack of creativity at his company. In a last effort to reclaim his creative promise, he tries to convince his business partner, Dylan, to change the company’s direction by unwillingly putting him inside a mixed-reality simulation, only to find out it has a mind of its own.
Phase Space is an immersive sci-fi experience, which combines a live-action movie, shot in an extra-wide format, with timed theatrical lighting and effects.

I’m Raz Harmel, a freelance filmmaker and content creator. My two favorite fields are film and technology and I'm always looking for ways to combine these two worlds. Currently I shoot and edit video content for all kinds of different companies and bodies in Israel such as Haogenplast and the Jewish Agency. I was also a director of photography on a respectable number of short films in all kinds of different genres.
Phase Space is an immersive sci-fi experience which uses framing as a unique language that reinforces the emotions and feelings of Tom, the main character. While Tom is in the office, the aspect ratio is square and boxy which contrasts with the wide and expansive aspect ratio of the game world. The framing also communicates with the central theme of the film: leaving the comfort zone. In life, we’re afraid of the unknown but the first step outside the comfort zone can lead to a much greater self-realization. Tom is trapped in a golden cage - he works at his dream job alongside his best friend but fails to satisfy himself creatively. In order to realize his creative potential, he must break away from the familiar, and break through his inner anxieties and boundaries.
