Phantom Frequency

Carmen is desperate to reconnect with her recently deceased boyfriend, Aaron. She turns to her friend, Elise, who conducts a séance. Together, they set the scene at Aaron’s former home, attempting to communicate with his spirit. However, the ritual unexpectedly summons a ghost, Jonah, who died in the same house long before Aaron moved in. As Carmen grapples with her disappointment, Jonah shares bittersweet stories of the love Aaron had for her, stirring Carmen’s emotions. Elise grows increasingly uncomfortable, hinting that she knows more than she’s letting on. As Jonah grows stronger, memories surface, revealing a darker truth. Jonah recalls seeing Elise and Aaron together before the accident, suggesting she was more involved than Carmen suspected.

Director Statement

“Our goal with Phantom Frequency was to explore complicated interpersonal relationships by showcasing how our selfish desires can have devastating consequences. In Phantom Frequency, our past mistakes come back to haunt us through the supernatural. As we dive into the themes of betrayal, we intend to guide this exploration through a clever blend of comedy and horror.”

“To complement the tone of the narrative, we decided to light this dark story in complimentary colors, using greens and pinks, bringing the duality of the script into the mise en scène. We purposefully intended to create an unsettling atmosphere through our set design, costuming, and makeup. In addition to bringing a fresh new take into horror, we also want to pay homage to the great films that came before through our use of makeup by using techniques popular in German Expressionism.”

“With this film, we seek to delight and terrify our audiences, inspiring them to take a closer look at their transgressions before it is all too late…”
