Phantasy

This rhapsody of la tour d’ivoire project is presented in a short video with the title named “Phantasy”. The title “Phantasy” has the meaning of “Rose Boy” in mandarin. The use of “x” in terms of “womxn” to name gender non-conforming individuals such as trans and nonbinary women. The theme of this video outlines LGBTQ+ topics such as sexuality, identity, expression and society. The main ideology is discussing inequalities and discrimination among sexual minorities in the society. The concept of homonormativity is constructed in the La Tour D'ivoire for LGBTQ+ groups as a metaphorical place where they are being accepted as part of the society. The main assumption is about the norm and values of heterosexuality should be practised among the LGBTQ+.
The reason why we choose this time is because we are inspired by the Yeh Yung-chih incident which is one of the iconic LGBT cases in Taiwan. He undergoes school bullying due to his effeminate mannerism. In order to escape harassment, he would use the restroom shortly before recess when other pupils were still in class. When he was discovered on 20th April 2000, unconscious in the junior high school bathroom in Pingtung County, prosecutors determined that a diagnosis had led him to slide and strike his head. His death at the young age of 15 has raised national attention that resulted in the Gender Equity Education Act.
