Pha Ngan - Experimental Room in the Sea

“The unlock of cannabis use” on June 9, 2022 caused a great deal of social controversy with both agreement and disagreement.
The tiny island in the Gulf of Thailand called “Ko Pha Ngan” is a beautiful island and one of the destinations for tourists around the world, especially for the famous full moon party with reputation of cannabis use.
However, many people never know that locals on Ko Pha Ngan have lived with cannabis for centuries since the ancient time in forms of food and traditional medicine.
This documentary will have people all over the world ponder with their human souls whether cannabis is a god or devil, has plenty of advantages or great harms, and how everyone can continue living in this world.

Weeraphan Thavorn is a filmmaker and graphic designer whose work has been featured on Thai public television. His film “We and the Woods” premiered at the 2022 Changing Climate, Changing Lives Film Festival, winning second place in the documentary shorts competition.

While people around the world are familiar with Koh Phangan for the Full Moon Party and the availability of marijuana on the island, many are unaware that the residents of Koh Phangan have been using marijuana for cooking and medicinal purposes for hundreds of years.
Currently, there are many debates regarding the legalization of marijuana in Thailand, with varying opinions among the population.
It is possible that on this island, there may be a proper and beneficial answer to coexistence between people and marijuana.
