Petrus & Paulus: The Same but Different
The identical twin brothers Pieter and Paul Roberts look the same, but have made very different choices in life. Paul's traditional militia scene and family life in Limburg and the lavish gay and drag-queen scene of Pieter in Amsterdam seem to be at odds with each other. But their lives also show many similarities.
They both reflect on their childhood, their upbringing and the choices they've made. And then there is a mysterious box, with old videotapes, hidden somewhere in their parents garden. Intended never to be found again...

Making a movie is learning a lot about your subject, but even more about yourself. Started as a ENG cameraman and news-editor on betacam-tapes, I learned to make quick decisions and think twice about the shots I needed. To save time and tape. My background as an editor helped me to 'edit in my head' while shooting.
During the years I made TV-programs for the regional TV-station in Limburg (The Netherlands). For the last years my focus is on making documentaries. Telling stories about people, for people. Especially when it's about (sub-)cultures I'm not familiar with. When it triggers my curiosity, there is no turning back...
How can identical twins, who look the same, grew up in the same small village, end up being so different? I knew both twins and they are so creative in their own way. That creativity binds them, but how it is displayed, is totally different. I was so curious, that I wanted to find it out myself by making this documentary.
