Peter LARSSON (1979, Sweden) lives and works in Stockholm. He is a visual artist and animator that predominantly experiments with stop motion and cutout animation. His received a BA and MFA in fine art from the Royal Institute of Art, Stockholm and studied at Emily Carr University of Art and Design in Vancouver and Gotland University, Visby (Sweden). His stop motion-based practice is a hands-on process where the material is co-creator and becomes the body of severe formulated situations, emotions and states. His cinematic language is surreal and often refers to horror films, folk tales and abstract painting. Larsson’s first film Mannen som inte kom nånstans (2005) was nominated for Best Short Film at the Guldbagge Awards, and in 2011 his film Seven Days in The Woods
was nominated for a Golden Berlin Bear, for Best Short Film at Berlinale. In 2016 his film Forgotten Reason was awarded Best Nordic Short at Nordisk Panorama in Malmö. His films have been screened at film festivals worldwide. Lately, he has also been interested in finding new ways to show his animations, for example using animation and sculpture in installations, and projecting video for various musical performances. In addition to film, Larsson works with printmaking, drawing, collage. He runs a record label with a friend, which releases music on cassette tapes and publishes fanzines and artist books.
