Director Biography - Bob Hartshorn

Movies are the first love of Bob Hartshorn, in particular writing and directing within the horror/ sci-fi genre. Bob is also a musician, comic-strip artist and creator of Giallo inspired art pieces.
Most recently he has been involved in the making of three short films: ‘Squint’, ‘Pet Sounds’ and ‘The Silent Protector’, working in video and digital. ‘Pet Sounds’, is a horror short which he wrote, produced and directed, as well as composing the music score, handling art-direction and the creation of special make-up fx. Involvement in the other films utilised his skills in sound, music, image creation and storyboarding. Previously Bob has also worked with Super-8 and 16mm.
His chief influences are Lucio Fulci, Slashers, Charles Burns and horror anthologies. Bob aims to create more shorts within the genres that indulge all the tasty aspects of 60’s luridness, 70’s Grindhouse and 80’s slasher exploitation with generous flourishes of avant garde surrealism and jet-black humour. Being typecast as a horror/genre filmmaker is something he embraces rather than fears, and his ultimate goal is to write and direct a feature that’ll freeze the blood and terrify the soul.

Director Statement

With 'Pet Sounds' we wanted to make something that is unapologetically and defiantly proud to call itself a horror film, one that captures the spirit, atmosphere and vibrancy of 70’s & 80’s exploitation cinema with practical make-up fx and dark humour coated in lurid, bloody colour.
