Jem Chevillotte is a French queer non-binary director based in London, UK. They focus on exploring the issues of sexism, injustice and intolerance as both drama and comedy. Previous film credits include Sketch Day and Eve No More, both selected by international festivals.
When I am not exploring queer topics, I like to tap into how dysfunctional straight relationships can be. This is the perfect playground for comedic situations. I wanted to portray how old-fashioned couples would interact nowadays, in the current political and social climate. There is also an undercurrent of racism and classism in the seemingly flawless yet heavily contrived rapport that the two main characters have, which I haven't seen tackled yet in the way it is addressed here.
This stand-alone short doubles as the pilot episode of a show exploring in more details the circumstances of those characters, showing how contrasting the perception of an event can be depending on one's vantage point.
