Perfect Boyfriend

In 2030, An Qi, who is dream of becoming a literary translator, used the latest high-tech bionics to fill their emptiness in emotional life. However, with the continuous improvement of AI translation technology, An Qi's translation skills are gradually surpassed by machine translation, and her job opportunities are less and less. In the process of getting along with the AI Jia Ming, An Qi realized that though Jia Ming could satisfy her many needs, she still felt that the robot did not understand her. In the end, she gave up her continued use of Jia Ming and chose to live alone.

Director Biography - Yang Dong

Yang Dong, an undergrad student from Communication University of China(CUC), is a digital media major. Yang has been active in filming since 2015 and over this period she has developed a huge interest in it. She’s also taken courses in film and television media both in the UK and New Zealand. From initially shooting short ads to currently shooting micro-movies, she’s gradually improved her shooting skills. She once filmed a promotional video for the school’s Art Festival and while working in the CUCTV station, she was responsible for editing and compiling some short films on CUCTV. In addition, short films made in collaboration with students from People's Liberation Army Academy of Art and Beijing Film Academy have also been well received by the instructors and students. In 2017 , she shot a creative short film with which she participated in the Creative Planet Academy Cup.

Director Statement

The film "perfect boyfriend" is set on the background based on the future society. The artificial intelligence technology has highly-developed and can vividly simulate the human being. Although it is a sci-fi short film, it has many details, hoping to resonate with the audience and lead to contemplation. When an AI simulation person with a similar appearance to humans really enters our lives, are people willing to accept that? What is the real emotional need of people? Can artificial intelligence replace human beings in emotion? Under the background of these settings, “Perfect Boyfriend” made some guesses and raised these problems, and people can elicit thinking through the film.
