Telling and sharing stories is fascinating, but telling transformative stories of people who are making a difference in their communities, cities and realities is my mission.
I am a Brazilian director and producer born in Rio de Janeiro. I grew up surrounded by inequalities, constantly seeing racism, misogyny, social inequality, poverty and exploitation of poor people in my country.
I managed to get into a good university with a scholarship to study architecture. I have always been a bicycle enthusiast and I believed that with architecture, I could improve cities and change people's lives.
In this process of seeing a lot of things that bothered me and always getting around by bicycle, I started to take a camera with me pretty much everywhere. Then, a new passion began: documenting the things that I thought were wrong, while trying to share that there were ways to work to reverse and improve the problems, rethink habits and educate ourselves.
What was a hobby, evolved into my work. I connected my documental productions with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, producing documental videos about social justice and sustainability. This, however, was never a profession with stability in Brazil, but after the 2018 presidential election, working like this became pure resistance. I realized that a future in my own country would be, for a good while, a difficult reality. Even though I had already produced contents related to the UN Agenda that even led me to participate at the UN Youth Assembly in New York City.
After the elections there were no more, grants, subsidy or incentives for my field. I had to rethink my career and life plan and I ended up going to New Zealand, one of the only places in the world where you can save money with a minimum wage salary and it is easier for Brazilians to get working visas.
After 2 years in New Zealand working as waiter, security guard, sales assistant, and even sickling in a farm, I was finally able to save enough money to come study and immigrate to Canada.
Here, after lots of challenges I was able to complete and pay for a Video Production course in Toronto.
My most recent short documentary, Bike Yourself, is my return to impact content after everything that has been happening in Brazil since 2018.
This is just the beginning of the productions that I will help bring to the world not just to create connections between people and stories but to change perspectives and make people rethink habits and beliefs.
