Peace by Piece
Former British Army Challenger II tank driver, Peter Cosgrove, suffered foot and leg injuries during an operation in Afghanistan in 2009. His road to recovery was steep, facing many challenges along the way as well as being diagnosed with combat-related PTSD in 2013. However, Peter rediscovered model-making, enabling him to relax his mind and to focus on his mental health.
As part of this process, he began volunteering for Models for Heroes, a charity with the aim of providing the hobby to veterans on the road to recovery. Peter continues to support the sessions, providing tips and knowledge to his fellow beneficiaries all the while remaining positive and a force for change. Stigmas are continually challenged and the awareness of mental health is now on the forefront, and his story is one of many.
This film was created with input from Royal British Legion Industries, Samaritans, Help for Heroes and Combat Stress.
