Director Biography - Carolina Sá

Carolina Sá was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1975, studied documentary at New School University in New York. He began his career in 2000 directing and producing a documentary series called Música Libre about the musical universe of five Caribbean countries- Cuba, Jamaica, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and Trinidad & Tobago. The series, co-produced by VideoFilmes, was released in 2003 on Channel GNT and later on Canal Brasil; Short Channel! and on the BET Jazz Channel in the US.
Her first feature film called “Construction” was released in 2012 on cinemas with associated production by director Walter Salles and actress Patricia Pillar. The film premiered at the 35th São Paulo International Film Festival and was screened at various festivals including Cine Sweden, Futuro Cine Salvador-BA and FEMINA (International Women's Festival) where it received the Jury Honorable Mention.
She directed more than 250 documentary films for TV Brasil between 2009 and 2012. In 2012 she was invited to create and direct several programs and documentaries for TV Escola (TV Educativa do Brasil) and TV INES (first channel for deaf people in the country).
Between 2016 and 2018 she wrote and directed eight films about the creative process of Brazilian female artists entitled Onde Nascem As Ideias (Where Ideas Are Born). Those women are film director Paula Gaitán, the poet and designer Mana Bernardes, the singer Juçara Marçal of the band Metá Metá, the director and set designer Bia Lessa, the choreographer Lia Rodrigues, the plastic artists Rosângela Rennó and Sonia Gomes and the teacher of dance and choreographer Angel Vianna. The movies were supported by Ancine Sector Fund and were completed in 2019.
