Paschal Paul Rutagwerela is a filmmaker based in Dar es Salaam. Mr. Rutagwerela works full-time as a Producer and Creative Director at a local
independent film production company, Natron Studios.

Rutagwerela is a 2022 graduate of the University of Dar es Salaam with a
Bachelor’s Degree in Film and Television Studies (First Class with Honors).

He has edited a number of feature films including Bongo na Flava, a 2015 ZIFF winner. His documentary film Bagamoyo ya Leo na Kesho (2022) was nominated for best documentary film at the 2022 Tanzania Film Awards.

For Mabatini, Rutagwerela won in Best Cinematography at the 2021 Sanaa Blast Festival and as a best Sound Designer for Paukwa Pakawa at the 2022 Sanaa Blast Festival.

Rutagwerela likes to tell stories with as much emotional depth as possible
involving complicated characters. Bahati ya Mtende is his feature film directorial debut.
