Director Statement

Parolytic will forever be my passion project for many and varying reasons. The writer Maylynne and I started working on this project since 2019 when both in our 40s realised that it was the time to actively go after our passion. In 2022 we got the opportunity to make the film and we were ready but little did I know that 2022 would have been the most difficult time in my life especially during the period in which I had to make the film.

During the making of Parolytic my mother was diagnosed with cancer and I was devastated to say the least - I had a deadline and a mother I had to take care of. Throughout the making of the film I cared for my mom and it was very difficult. Notwithstanding I did it because Parolytic became my escape from my heartbreaking reality. I literally mirrored the protaganist in the film as they sought a refuge in real and imagined world. I dug deep into my true artistic self while filming and brought out my true aesthetic as a director because I went searching for it because I had no choice because I wanted to, I had to, all I ever wanted is to make my mother proud.

I dedicated Parolytic to my mother who passed away on January 5, 2023.
