Bella is a filmmaker who is currently based in Cyprus. She completed her studies in Business and Theater at Skidmore College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 2019. After her graduation, Bella worked as a Producer Assistant at a production company called Monumental Vision between 2021 and 2022. Later, she pursued her own projects and has completed three short films so far.
My grandfather struggled with Alzheimer's for the last five years of his life. With him, struggled the whole family. Especially my grandmother and my mother, who took care of him daily.
I saw the slowly growing distance between Grandpa and Grandma and between Grandpa and his daughter, my mom. Anger and resentment developed out of constant tiredness despite the deep love and gratitude for the happy years. Everyone in the family felt absence loss - physically, grandpa was still with us, but emotionally and consciously, he was not. This creates a particular feeling of loneliness and longing - very heavy and drenching. For five years, my grandma and mom were not living their lives because they were tied to grandpa.
To me, my film is about a woman struggling to choose her own life. The main character, Elga, is forced to choose between herself and her father. The decision is hard to make - she loves her father. However, she must make a decision even if she believes it to be ugly.
The film asks a profoundly humane and raw question - can putting yourself first and choosing to live your own life make you a monster. I let the audience decide for themselves.
