Blue Water Cloths
In the midst of creating her work for an art exhibition, textile artisan Marcela de la Vega travels to the El Morado glacier with a team of glaciologists. This journey merges questions about the life and future of the glacier, family stories and testimonies, explorations of the use of biomaterials in art, and, above all, questions about the meaning and future of the creative process.

Helena Valenzuela-Astudillo is a Chilean geographer specializing in the characterization of rock glaciers. Her interest and dedication to glacial studies have made her an important figure in the study of mountains and their dynamics.
Helena currently works as a project geographer at the consulting firm Geoestudios, where she leads research projects on rock glaciers and collaborates on research and exploration in areas related to climate change and glacial systems. In parallel, she has initiated a project called Criosféricas, together with a group of women scientists, which seeks to raise awareness of the world of glaciology through audiovisual recordings key to the fields of glaciology and the environment. The project aims to raise public awareness about the importance of the cryosphere and encourage women's participation in science.
My commitment has always been to integrate rigorous science with creativity, seeking to bridge the gap between technical knowledge and public perceptions of environmental challenges. In particular, my focus has been on glaciers, fundamental elements in understanding global climate change. Through my work, I aim to raise awareness of their crucial role in the climate system and foster greater awareness of the urgency of their preservation. This project is an opportunity to connect science with emotion and to engage a broader audience in understanding the challenges we face as a society in the face of climate change.
