With deep admiration for her Ecuadorian origins, Karla Carreño is an artist who strives for representation. During her last year at Pratt Institute she focused on developing a personal project about connecting with ones roots. Through obsessive detail and thorough research Karla has written a story that tells a lesson regarding the passing on of our elder's traditions.
This story is heavily influenced by the Ecuadorian culture. I’ve always felt a strong connection to the country I was born in. It’s a place that holds a lot of significance to me and this project is a manifestation of me exploring my Ecuadorian identity. In a way, it reflects my own self discovery of identity and gaining a deeper connection with that part of who I am.
Palomas de un Sueño has allowed me to pass on something that has been passed down to me by my grandparents. It brings me grest satisfaction to be able to deliver such a story. This short film has given me hope, that I have a platform to tell stories bigger than life, stories that go beyond time.
