Painting Illusions

Isabel's uncle visits her by surprise while she watches over Princess Margaret at one of the royal picnics in the meadow. That same night Isabel has strange dreams about her past and her father. Troubled by having forgotten her origins, she asks the King for permission to go down to the village. After being refused, Isabela escapes from the Palace at night. In the village she finds only war and darkness, until she meets a crazy old woman who knows the whereabouts of her father, telling a riddle. With this hopeful news and having been out of the palace for two days, Isabella is captured by the royal guard and taken to the palace. There, she is punished and sent to the dungeon by order of the Queen. In jail she finally solves the riddle of the old woman understanding that there is a non-painted world behind the canvas. The day she returns to her duties is the same day that Velázquez is determined to paint the portrait of the kings. At that moment, without anyone noticing, Isabel pierces the canvas where they are (Las Meninas) with a razor blade. With great alarm, in the real world, the painting is taken to the depot for repair. There, Isabel cuts out herself to be able to move freely between the long corridors of the Prado museum where hundreds of paintings and portraits are stored until she finally manages to find her father's, battered, labelled and judged as a painting of no importance.
